Dems, GOP waging a new Civil War?

I am stunned by the level of hysteria, harshness, and misinformation in our national discourse.

The divide between the Republicans and Democrats is so deep and apparently unbridgeable as to values, their sense of reality and policy positions that it rivals the divisions between the North and the South over slavery in the two decades before the Civil War. It's all about wielding power and getting re-elected, and not about finding solutions to problems.
