Hawks' third-line forwards impressing Quenneville
The Blackhawks' forward lines appear to be taking shape again.
While it's impossible to predict if the third line of John Madden, Kris Versteeg and Andrew Ladd will stay intact for the playoffs, it's a grouping coach Joel Quenneville likes for the right now.
"They're coming off two really good games," Quenneville said. "It's not just their production, they've had a lot of puck time in the offensive zone and have been dangerous off the rush."
Ladd had a hat trick in Sunday's loss to Detroit while Versteeg has 2 goals in the last three games after going 18 games without finding the net.
"All three of us are getting up the ice and putting pressure on their defense," Ladd said.
"Steeger seems to have a little bit of pace we like lately," Quenneville said. "Lady looks like he's flying and Johnny has really returned off the injury in good shape. It hasn't been together long, that line, but so far it's been really good."
Quenneville said Versteeg went through a stretch that happens to a lot of goal scorers.
"You get a guy who scores goals and is a producer and makes plays and hasn't scored in a big number, you get one and all of a sudden you feel a little more comfortable with the puck in those scoring areas and your finishes seem to be enhanced," Quenneville said. "It's nice to see him have some confidence again."
Moving Dustin Byfuglien to the fourth line with Adam Burish and Ben Eager gives the Hawks the potential for a nice physical trio.
Full roster: Joel Quenneville looked for some wood to knock when asked about having a healthy 23-man roster for the first time all season.
But with good health comes tough roster decisions with forwards Tomas Kopecky and Colin Fraser and defenseman Jordan Hendry the odd men out for now.
"It's not an easy thing," Quenneville said. "As a team it's important to understand we're all in it together. We've got to sit three guys out now, but things can change quickly."
Here comes trouble: The Hawks will see Daniel Carcillo of the Flyers Saturday.
The NHL on Friday decided against suspending Carcillo for shoving linesman Greg Devorski in Thursday's game against Boston.
Carcillo has racked up 175 penalty minutes to rank fourth in the league and has 15 majors.
Done deal: The Hawks signed free agent junior defenseman Ryan Stanton to a three-year entry level contract on Friday.
The 20-year-old Stanton has 10 goals and 30 assists in 57 games for Moose Jaw in the Western Hockey League.
