Schaumburg's Sugar Bush Fair turns 25

The return of spring means not only warmer, brighter days for everyone but Spring Valley Nature Center's most popular event of the year.

The nature center run by the Schaumburg Park District will host the 25th annual Sugar Bush Fair from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 20, and Sunday, March 21, at 1111 E. Schaumburg Road in Schaumburg.

The event shows visitors all about the American tradition of maple sugaring and demonstrates both Native American and early pioneer methods of sap collecting and maple sugar and syrup production.

The fair includes hands-on activities, a children's puppet show, hayrides, syrup sales and more.

"It is definitely a one-of-a-kind experience for this area," said Spring Valley Manager Dave Brooks.

It's "an opportunity to learn about and see how maple syrup is made, and then to sit down to a delicious breakfast under a big tent," he said.

While general admission is free, tickets are required for breakfast. Advance tickets cost $3.50 for a half stack of pancakes and $4.50 for a full stack. Day-of prices are $4 and $5, respectively.

Breakfast also includes sausage, juice, coffee and, of course, real maple syrup. The breakfast is held under a tent, so dress for the weather.

Parking is available at Spring Valley itself and nearby Olympic Park at 1675 E. Old Schaumburg Road. A shuttle bus will run continuously from Olympic Park to Spring Valley.
