Schaumburg party ends in rape charge

A Cook County judge set bond at $35,000 Tuesday for a Carol Stream man charged with a rape authorities say took place at a Schaumburg house party last August.

Police charged Gabriel Dieppa, of the 500 block of Sauk Court, with criminal sexual assault following the incident which involved a 26-year-old woman, said Assistant State's Attorney Adam Klugman.

The complaining witness said she fell asleep on a sectional sofa during the party and awoke to find Dieppa, 32, removing her clothes, Klugman said. The woman said the defendant pulled her to the floor and assaulted her, Klugman said.

Illinois State Police crime laboratory technicians linked DNA taken from the woman to the defendant, said Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl.

The wait for crime lab results and the subsequent execution of search and arrest warrants contributed to the six-month span between the incident and the filing of charges, Nebl said.

Dieppa, whose background includes probation for a 1996 burglary, next appears in a Rolling Meadows courtroom on April 7.
