Huntley man dies in car crash

A 20-year-old Huntley man died Tuesday when his car collided with an oncoming garbage truck on Route 176 in Crystal Lake, sending the vehicle careening backward and shutting down the state highway entirely while emergency and cleanup crews responded.

Ryan Kraszczyk, of Huntley, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred about 1:13 p.m. near the highway's intersection with Mount Thabor Road, police said.

Kraszczyk was driving a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer south on Mount Thabor, police said, when he attempted to cross Route 176 to Haligus Road and was hit by the Marengo Disposal Co. garbage truck traveling west on the state highway.

The driver of the truck, Bryon Back, 29, of Rockford, was treated at the scene for a minor injury, police said.

No tickets have been issued, but the crash remains under investigation, police said.
