Thursday's Fox Valley roundup

The Streamwood girls softball team opened the season on a positive note Thursday, sweeping a nonconference doubleheader from Wheeling, 11-1 and 12-2.

Amanda Patterson scattered 7 hits in the opener for the Sabres, while Jenna Szabo fired a 2-hitter in Game 2.

Delaney O'Malley was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, Jen Mellenthin 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and Patterson added 3 hits to lead the Sabres' 15-hit attack in Game 1.

In the nightcap, Patterson was 3-for-5 with 3 RBI, O'Malley 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and Mellenthin 3-for-4 with 3 RBI. Melane Echler scored 3 runs for Streamwood.

"Its great to get some wins but we have a lot of things we still need to improve on," said Streamwood coach Nick Baird.

Buffalo Grove sweeps Elgin: Elgin (2-5) had runner in scoring position in the sixth and seventh innings but couldn't push a run across the plate and fell to Buffalo Grove 7-6 in Game 1 of a nonconference doubleheader. BG then routed the Maroons 15-1 in Game 2. Hannah Perryman suffered the loss for the Maroons in the opener, allowing 6 hits with 6 strikeouts and 6 walks. Samantha Doty was 2-for-3 for Elgin. Doty suffered the loss in Game 2 and had a double, 1 of Elgin's 2 hits in the nightcap.

College softball

ECC splits with Rock Valley: Mackenzie Scott threw a 1-hitter with 12 strikeouts as Elgin Community College downed Rock Valley 8-0 in Game 1 of a doubleheader. The Spartans (2-2) fell 3-1 in Game 2. Scott walked only one in posting her second win for ECC. Barb Posinger was 3-for-4, Jordan Hogue 2-for-4 and Diana Besser 2-for-3 with 3 RBI in the opener. Scott took the loss in Game 2 despite allowing just 2 hits and striking out 10. ECC managed just 3 hits in the nightcap.
