Now that's Chicago hospitality
What's the difference between Blackhawks' fans acceptance of Flyers fans attending Stanley Cup Finals games at the United Center vs. the way Flyers fans deal with Hawks fans at the Wachovia Center?
Try night and day.
Or how about Midwest charm vs. East Coast fill-in-the-blank?
Just ask the Murabito family from Philadelphia, who were gathered among Hawks fans near the Michael Jordan statue outside the UC before Sunday's pivotal Game 5.
John and Patty, along with daughter Gabrielle and son Robbie, each sported their Flyers garb proudly, yet they heard nary a nasty barb the whole time there.
And those they heard earlier in the day would hardly raise an eyebrow.
"All they say is 'Go home,' " Gabrielle said of Hawks fans. "But then they'd always say, 'Just kidding.' "
"They're so nice here," Patty added with a smile.
Meanwhile, in the City of Brotherly Love -
"In Philadelphia," Robbie said, "they'd throw a beer at you."
Or worse.
"I was talking to a Hawks fan (in Philly), asking him for things to do in Chicago," dad John said. "I asked him how the fans were treating him. He said, 'They're terrible.'
"He said, 'It wasn't bad when an old guy was calling me a (jerk), but when a 12-year-old is calling me a (jerk), I had a problem with that.' "
Viva the Midwest.
