Hawks look to regain home edge
With three games remaining until the Olympic break, the Blackhawks are looking to ride the momentum they hope they built in Saturday's 2-1 win at St. Louis.
The Hawks host Dallas tonight at the United Center in search of their first win over the Stars after 4-3 and 5-4 losses.
"They have a good team and have some good lines," defenseman Brian Campbell said. "When they're on their game they're a tough team to beat, so we have to be ready to go. I think more important it's getting back to winning at home here and making this a tough place for teams to come in and play."
The Hawks have lost their last two games at home and scored 3 goals. Their last three games have been decided by 1 goal.
"A lot of games down the stretch are going to be 1-goal games and we have to be ready for that because it's going to lead into the playoffs," Campbell said. "Our special teams need to be better. If the power play can add 1 a game, that will create more scoring for us."
The Hawks don't have a power-play goal in their last five games, going 0-for-16.
Paying respects: Coach Joel Quenneville wasn't at practice on Monday.
Quenneville and general manager Stan Bowman attended the wake in suburban Boston for Brendan Burke, the 21-year-old son of Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke who was killed in an auto accident over the weekend in Indiana.
Wait and see: With Joel Quenneville out of town on Monday there was no formal announcement of a starting goalie for tonight's game against Dallas.
Antti Niemi would seem to be the logical choice coming off Saturday's terrific performance against the Blues.
It was Niemi's first start in two weeks and first since he missed two days on the ice last week because of the flu.
"I felt maybe a little bit tired at the end, but it didn't bother me," Niemi said. "I've felt pretty good for the last few days."
