Decorum, please, as we debate the issues
President Obama's State of the Union address was a thoughtful, stellar, committed effort to bring our country together and to provided the leadership for which we elected him, even in the midst of potentially debilitating attacks. Help for small business, stimulus for hiring of new workers, shoring up the nation's infrastructure, while providing jobs and curbing the undisciplined practices of big banks are but a few of the constructive positive plans presented by the president.
I was appalled at the politically self-serving responses of some members of congress, who had an opportunity to respond to President Obama's challenge in a constructive way so that together, elected leaders of our country can address the threatening situations that face us all. There is plenty of blame to go around, but dwelling on blame and finger pointing will only drain energy and prevent forward progress.
Fair, thoughtful press coverage can help to move readers to thoughtful consideration of the issues and the carefully researched directions rather than dwelling on superficial, sensational, party-driven and hate-centered rabble rousing. Please support, even as you challenge, our elected leaders. Insist on respect and thoughtful movement forward for our country.
