Lake County briefs
Dist. 73 board member resigns:John Sonnenberg, vice president of the Hawthorn District 73 school board, resigned Monday. The action, effective Feb. 4, was prompted by Sonnenberg's pending move out of the district to take a new job. He was elected to the board in 2007 with the term set to end in April 2011. District residents interested in serving the remainder of this term should complete and return an application to the district office by 3 p.m. Feb. 12. Applications are available online at hawthorn73.org or at (847) 990-4215. Interested applicants also are encouraged to attend a town-hall meeting in which the role of a school board member is a topic. That meeting is at 7 p.m. Feb. 9 at Hawthorn Elementary North, 301 Hawthorn Parkway, Vernon Hills.Homeless count planned:Crews will try to count Lake County's homeless population tonight as part of an annual point-in-time census. Volunteers and homeless service providers will go out in groups to find homeless individuals staying on the streets and bring them to shelter. The census is needed to receive grant funding and provide services. The 2009 study found 367 people who met the federal definition of homelessness.
