AARP, Congress betrays seniors

My thanks to Mr. Jacobson of Buffalo Grove for his comments on the AARP. He is right on in saying that the AARP is now or soon will be an extension of the insurance industry. The AARP stands to make millions (in the form of insurance premiums) off this so called "health care" reform, as will our elected representatives in Washington (in the form of contributions).

I have canceled my AARP membership and will look to other senior organizations for representation. We in the middle class, and especially the seniors are the ones that will pay for these vote-getting efforts of the politicians.

Why has Congress failed to allow the purchase of drugs from approved countries? Why has Congress failed to negotiate lower drug costs for part "D" coverage. Instead, the pharmaceutical industry has raised prices and prevented generic drugs from coming on line. And the insurance industry has the gall to raise part "D" premiums in exchange for some minor change in gap coverage.

It is certain that we seniors can look forward to rationed care depending on age just as certain as our costs will rise to pay for this change.

I say, let's vote the rascals out of office, and let the AARP know we are not happy with what they are doing for us.
