Vote for Kurtz, against Koehler
I am not affiliated with the campaign of any political candidate. I am a private citizen who recently moved to Crystal Lake. I have made two decisions regarding the upcoming primary election and urge other voters in McHenry County Board District 2 to join with me.
I will vote for Donna Kurtz. I appreciate her energy and knowledge. She opposes video gambling in McHenry County.
As a McHenry County College board member she had the courage to change her position on the baseball stadium from support to opposition. In the process, the MCC board voted to censure her. Given that the MCC board goes through college presidents like baseball players consume sunflower seeds, the censure is a badge of honor. I believe she will work for more open government. For this and more, I appeal to my neighbors to vote for Donna Kurtz.
I oppose with all my heart the re-election of Ken Koehler to the board. His autocratic ways of governing the board are wrong. He opposed giving voters the right to vote on the support or opposition of video gambling. He just happened to have 17 acres of property he sold to Metra for the controversial Ridgefield stop. The site selected for this stop is convenient only for the sale of land by a connected politician, not for commuters.
His past comments indicate a lack of respect for the city's namesake lake and protection of its watershed. I do not believe that District 2 or McHenry County needs someone who says he supports open government but whose actions bespeak otherwise.
