’Tis the season of hypocrisy, too
I believe 100 percent in keeping Christ in Christmas. But I think it’s funny when everyone hammers hard on the importance of not saying “holidays” and “Xmas.” 1. Holidays is a derivative of “holy days.” So no one’s really getting off the hook when they say, “Happy Holidays.”
2. Xmas showed up in the 1500s and was created by people who transcribed the Bible in order to save time and space. The Greek letter chi (“X”) is the first letter in “Christ,” and it’s been used as a substitute for His name for over 1,000 years. You’re not getting off the hook when you use that either.
What bothers me the most are not atheists who send cards bearing “Xmas” or politicians who call their city’s evergreen a “holiday tree.” The thing that gets my garland in a knot is Christians who say “Merry Christmas” but who celebrate the holy day like atheists.
