Catholics accomodate non-Christians

George Kocan’s Dec. 2 letter is correct. The Catholic Church has taken on Protestant norms, but this is a continuation of what the Church as done through out history. Catholic High Holidays have been adjusted over time to help assimilate non Christians.

Christ was born in March, yet we celebrate his birth on Dec. 25, just days after the winter Solstice (a high holiday in early Europe) and about the same time as Hanukkah.

Easter and Passover are close to each other also. A trip to Egypt would show how much the Catholic Church took as their own, from the Coptics and the Egyptians.
