Lisle uses $591,000 grant to add elevators at train station
A pair of elevators installed at a cost of almost $600,000 will make it easier for Lisle commuters to use the pedestrian underpass at the downtown Main Street train station, officials said.
Village leaders will celebrate the opening of the elevators with a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, on the upper level of the station’s south side commuter shelter.
The dedication marks the completion of a construction project that began in July with a $591,000 grant from the West Suburban Mass Transit District, a commuter rail agency representing communities along the Burlington Northern line to oversee improvements at commuter stations.
The project included installation of two elevators, one in each of the two shelters that are connected by a pedestrian underpass. New roofs also were added to each shelter.
