Barrington bounces back

Barrington rebounded from a tough last-second loss in its Jacobs Boys Holiday Basketball Classic opener to beat Rockford Jefferson 63-46 on Monday in Algonquin.

Brad Zaumseil and Mark Bennett each scored 17 points and hit two 3-pointers for the Broncos (8-4, 1-1 in pool play). Lee Conforti added 9 points as they extended a 28-24 halftime lead to 49-34 after three quarters.

“We knew that they had some athletes,” said Barrington coach Bryan Tucker. “It was going to be critical to stop their transition (offense). We got some run outs ourselves. We went inside early and everyone got confident.

“They were really trying to get out on our perimeter kids. Lee did a nice job seeing things happen. Good things happen when you get the ball inside.”

Barrington lost 52-51 to Elk Grove on Saturday and finishes pool play at noon today against Jacobs. Jeremi Nelson led Jefferson (6-5, 1-1 in pool play) with 11 points.
