Libertyville High dance teacher wins regional prize

Libertyville High School dance teacher Eryn Brown has been named Midwest Dance Educator of the Year by the Midwest District of the American Alliance of Health, Physical education, Recreation and Dance.

The honor comes a year after the organization named her the dance educator of the year for Illinois.

The Midwest district is comprised of Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan and West Virginia.

The winners from each of the organization’s six districts compete for a national award.

Brown will go on to interview and complete the process for the National Dance Education of the Year Award at a convention in March 2012 in Boston.

Brown is in her eighth year of teaching dance at Libertyville High.

In addition to her classes, Brown serves as the school’s Orchesis director and she is the choreographer for the fall musical.

Under her direction, Orchesis received the honor of performing in the student showcase of the Illinois High School Dance Festival in 2007, 2008, and 2009.

Additionally, Brown’s musical theater choreography for “Pippin” and “The Drowsy Chaperone” was featured during performances at the Illinois Theater Festival in 2006 and 2011.
