Scouting Hersey at Buffalo Grove
Hersey (3-2, 0-1) at Buffalo Grove (2-3, 0-1)
When: 7:30 p.m. today
Last week: Hersey lost to Prospect 48-7; BG lost to Elk Grove 23-7
Outlook: Another big rivalry game has big postseason implications for both teams coming off vastly different games. BG was down only 9-7 into the fourth quarter last week behind Brian Akialis, Tyler Juckett and Joe Damisch, but coach Jim Farrell still wasn't sure if QB Mike Garrity and S Connor Cheever would be able to return from two- and three-week layoffs from concussions. "We know our goal and we have to win to get in," Farrell said. "People have to step up and rally around missing key starters." That didn't happen for Hersey last week as it was down 28-0 after just six minutes with four starters out for the first of two games for disciplinary reasons. Versatile Chris Polinski ended up seeing time at QB last week. "The challenge for us is we have to get back to playing good, hard football," said Hersey coach Dragan Teonic. "Playing hard on every down and competing on every down." BG has won three straight and 12 of 14 meetings in a series it leads 25-11.
