Schaumburg Boomers sign 2 players
The Schaumburg Boomers have signed a pair of rookie infielders — Andrew Cohn of Emory University and Tyler Boling.
A four-year letter winner at Division III Emory in Atlanta, Ga., Cohn collected a .331 career batting average with 200 hits in 160 career games for the Eagles. Cohn, whose father Mike played baseball at Yale University, was named to the University Athletic Association's (UAA) All-Conference Team in each of his four years and took home Gold Glove honors in 2011, playing primarily third base and shortstop.
Boling, a 2007 Christian Athletic Georgia All-State Player of the Year, comes to the Boomers after a season in the New York State League, a lower-level Independent League. A product of East Cobb Baseball, one of the premier youth baseball operations in the country, Boling batted .325 in the New York State League in 2011 playing second base primarily.
Cohn and Boling are the first two players under contract with the Boomers and manager Jamie Bennett in 2012. Frontier League rules permit up to 34 players on the roster when the Boomers open Spring Training in early May 2012 with a maximum of 24 players on the active roster for Opening Day May 18 when the Boomers travel to Avon, Ohio, to play the Lake Erie Crushers May 18.
