All we have are lies and little progress

What happened to the truth since the last presidential election? We expect to make an informed decision on Election Day, but how can that happen without having factual information? Look how far we have progressed. Similar news stories are interpreted differently; just tune in to MSNBC and compare the same story on CNN or Fox News.

Politicians are no better at telling the truth than the news media. There is a double standard when discussing the truth. If you lie to a congressional committee you could spend some time in jail. Since that is the case, why do some members of Congress lie to the public and continue to spin untruths without consequence?

In an effort to get the jobs bill passed, Vice President Joe Biden used crime statistics from Flint, Mich., saying that murder and rape went up because of police job losses. He was factually wrong because the crime numbers did not triple as he stated but they actually declined by about 10 percent.

Lying has become more frequent and seems to be part of the fundamental transformation the then-candidate Obama referred to. That transformation is the reason I am not better off now than I was four years ago. For three years Americans have been promised jobs and for three years millions of Americans continue losing jobs.

The president has stated that no one is looking out for Middle America. Wasn’t the shrinking middle class supposed to be the focus of his actions? He doesn’t realize that on the Jay Leno show he admitted his policies failed to look out for the middle class. I wonder how that will be spun.
