Glen Ellyn business helps clients achieve financial peace of mind

An interview with Lynn Torre, owner of Financial Transitions Ltd

Q: Describe your business.

A:  It is an independent financial services firm offering investments, insurance and financial planning products and services.

Q: What do you do?

A: I help my clients achieve financial peace of mind. In working with women, I have discovered that there are three critical skills they must master for them to find peace of mind.  They must: 1. Define what goals are really meaningful and motivating 2. Discover how their money beliefs and behaviors impact reaching their goals 3. Create a personal action plan for their unique situation My clients work with me to master these skills.  They tell me that they worry less because they have an experienced professional managing their money and keeping them on track.

Q: What made you start your business?

A: I have been in financial services for over 15 years but 5 years ago I recognized the importance of being independent of broker/dealers who pushed their own products and agendas on their reps. It also gave me the opportunity to offer workshops and seminars for women that did not speak about products, but taught them how to be aware of their money behaviors and take proactive steps toward being in control of their finances.

Q: What has been the most difficult obstacle in running or starting a small business?

A: Learning to market both myself and the business. The first step was to clearly define what benefits I bring to my clients that make me unique. The second step was to succinctly communicate this to the public.

Q: What do you enjoy most about operating your business?

A: Helping people understand the big picture of their finances and then create and implement their personal action plan for the future. This gives them confidence in managing their money.

Q: Is this what you pictured yourself doing when you were young? When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A:  Looking back, I have worked in many financial arenas.  They were either about helping people with their finances or educating them about money.  This is actually in line with my degree in consumer education. I can’t say that I planned it this way though; it just seemed to evolve.  The turning point for me was after my divorce when I met so many women who had no idea how to manage their money or plan for their future.

Q: What keeps you up at night?

A: Thinking about different ways I can help my clients.  With so much turmoil in the world, I want to both protect my clients money and educate them so they do not panic.

Q: You could give one tip to a rookie business owner, what would it be?

A: I believe that every business owner, both new and seasoned, needs to have PIP to be successful in business.  Passion, integrity and purpose.

Without these three traits you will not be client focused nor will you be trusted.
