Senior Services coordinator honored Oct. 31

Representative Michelle Mussman joined seniors and other guests at Schaumburg’s Barn to recognize Senior Services coordinator Kiran Chaturvedi for her 25 years of service to local senior citizens and the disabled through her work as part of the Community Nutrition Network.

Mussman presented Chaturvedi with a beautiful plaque, reading aloud to the group:

“The 97th General Assembly House of Representatives acknowledges Kiran Chaturvedi in recognition of enriching our community through 25 years of service as senior program coordinator at the Schaumburg Barn and join in the commemoration of the effort, dedication and hard work that led to success and further expresses its best wishes for personal happiness and professional achievement.” Signed by Michael Madigan and Timothy D. Mapes.

In her role as the Senior Services coordinator for the village these past 15 years, Kiran encourages all seniors to come to The Barn. The Barn serves as a second home for many of the area’s seniors and disabled community members, providing food, fun and fellowship. It also offers an opportunity for participants to help their fellow seniors and their community, such as the upcoming Schaumburg Barn Bake Sale and Raffle Wednesday, Nov. 16.

Committed to good nutrition for the mind, body and soul, Chaturvedi and the village partner together to ensure The Barn offers nutritious, affordable meals (suggested donation $3-$3.25), fellowship through numerous special events and educational programs enlightening seniors on current topics.

Come and enjoy the welcoming atmosphere, delicious, nutritious food and all that The Barn has to offer. A new item at The Barn is the healthy, fresh salad bar. Township Supervisor Mary Wroblewski came to the Barn for lunch on Oct. 18, and had the opportunity to enjoy the new fresh bar.

Wroblewski sent Chaturvedi a note saying, “Thank you for inviting me to sample the new salad bar at The Barn. I was impressed with not only the presentation but the variety the salad bar offered. As a registered nurse and caregiver for my 90-year-old mother, I know how important good nutrition is for the senior population. Many seniors lack enough fruits and vegetables in their diets. The salad bar is an excellent way to entice healthy food choices. With the wide variety the salad bar offers, seniors have a chance to choose the ingredients they prefer in their individual salads. But the best part was eating the salad! It was delicious! I’m glad seniors in Schaumburg have a low-cost but delicious way to get the balanced diets that they need to live longer healthy lives. Thank you,” Wroblewski said.

The Schaumburg Barn is located at 231 S. Civic Drive, Schaumburg. Call Kiran Chaturvedi for more information at (847) 524-7496 or email kchaturvedi@ci.schaumburg.il.us.
