Scouting report: The Saxons return four starters from a team that was quite competitive in the MSL West (including a win over runner-up and highly-regarded Hoffman Estates). Among the returning cast for coach Ashley Berggren is Saklak, a versatile forward who enjoyed a breakout season as a junior. After missing the first four games with an ankle injury, she went on to average 11.5 points, 9.2 rebounds and 3.4 steals while scoring a career-high 22 points against Naperville Central. Kelly (MSL West leader with 2.8 steals) ran the floor game and netted a career-high 14 points against Palatine. Gerber (8.2 points, 7 rebounds) and Skorczewski each scored their career-high 15 points in the season opener against Proviso West. "We will be led by a core group of experienced upperclassmen (Gerber, Saklak, Kelly and Skorczsewski)," said Berggren, who was a former standout for Barrington and Illinois. "We will be multidimensional with our veteran inside players and quick, shooting guards. In the first two weeks of practice, our players have shown significant progress and the level of intensity has been great."
