Lake County man denies propositioning child
A former Ingleside man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges he twice tried to entice a 6-year-old girl into performing a sex act more than three years ago.
Calvin Meyers, 23, currently of the 1800 block of Kedron Boulevard in Zion, faces up to five years in prison if convicted of indecent solicitation of a child.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Matthew Demartini said Meyers, who in June 2008 lived on Wilson Road in Ingleside, knew the girl through his acquaintance with her mother.
In October of this year, Demartini said, Meyers visited the girl and her mother at their home in Round Lake.
When Meyers left, Demartini said, the girl began crying and told her mother that Meyers had twice attempted to talk her into performing a sex act some time ago.
The girl was interviewed by detectives at the Lake County Children’s Advocacy Center, Demartini said, and was able to date the occurrences as happening between June 1 and June 15, 2008.
The detectives also took a statement from the girl’s older sister that corroborated what the younger girl had told them, Demartini said.
Lake County sheriff’s police located Meyers at his current residence on Oct. 19, Demartini said, and claim Meyers admitted he had done what the girl said he did.
Meyers was freed from custody after posting $2,500 for bond.
Associate Judge Theodore Potkonjak scheduled a trial of the case for Jan. 3 and ordered Meyers to appear in court Dec. 15.
