Your News: VFW Post 1337 Essay Contest winners

The Mount Prospect Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1337 essay contest theme of "What Memorial Day Means to Me" was a resounding success this year with more than 100 entries submitted from Mount Prospect Junior high and middle schools.

"There were many very excellent thoughtful essays submitted and judging was very difficult." says VFW Essay Contest chairman Bill Starr.

To recognize the additional excellent papers, three "Honorable Mention" papers were also identified. The Series E savings bonds were donated by Ravenswood Bank in Mount Prospect.

The winners are:

First Prize - $100 Savings Bond: Kelsey O'Brien St Emily's School

Second Prize - $75 Savings Bond: Angella Kilbo St. Emily's School

Third Prize - $50 Savings Bond: Sara Duncan St. Alphonsus Liguori School

Honorable Mentions go to: Griffin Snead, Lincoln Middle School; Kristen Sink, St. Alphonsus Liguori School; and Lauren Gierman, St. Alphonsus Liguori School.
