O'Brien hits 1,000 points for Stevenson
Another day, another milestone Stevenson's girls basketball team.
Senior guard Michelle O'Brien scored the 1,000th point of her four-year varsity career, as she helped the Patriots defeat Mother McAuley 55-25 in the Maine West Tipoff Classic on Saturday.
O'Brien and Kari Moffat each scored 14 points to lead Stevenson (3-0, 2-0), which saw head coach Tom Dineen record the 700th win of his hall-of-fame career on Wednesday night against Maine West.
The Patriots led 22-8 after one quarter and were up 31-15 at halftime. They then outscored Mother McAuley 14-3 in the third quarter.
Libertyville 58, Maine South 49 (OT): At Buffalo Grove, Alex Haley scored 6 points, including a 3-pointer, in overtime, as the Wildcats won to remain undefeated on the season.
Savannah Trees led Libertyville (5-0, 4-0) with 15 points, sinking 5 of 6 free throws in OT. Haley and Olivia Wilcox each scored 12 points for the Wildcats.
Montini 78, Lakes 24: At Geneva, the Eagles suffered their worst loss of the season.
“Just plain ugly,” said Lakes coach Peter Schneider, whose team fell to 1-2. “We played hard and did some good things, but were seriously overmatched.”
Providence 50, Antioch 49: At Geneva, the Sequoits fell to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the tournament.
