Schaumburg police offer tips to prevent burglaries
Schaumburg police are reminding residents of some of the basics in preventing and/or reporting home burglaries.
They suggest calling 911 to report anyone ringing doorbells randomly or claiming to be at the wrong house. Police further ask for as detailed a description as possible of suspicious persons or vehicles in a neighborhood.
Tips for preventing burglaries include locking all windows and doors with large deadbolts and screws; having trees and bushes trimmed to prevent areas of concealment around the home; using external lights in front and back, preferably with a motion sensor; locking valuables in a quality safe; asking neighbors and friends to watch the house when occupants are out of town; and becoming an active member of one’s Neighborhood Watch Program.
