Ban on aerial lifts goes too far
I am writing this in response to the story, “Colleges change lift rules after Long Grove student's death.” The colleges should never have banned lifts in the first place. Even though Notre Dame did lose a student, the reactions were too extreme. The student died because he was using an aerial lift on a windy day. It's common sense to think about the consequences while using the lift in those conditions.
No offense to the young man who died, but this accident could have been avoided. Why have some schools banned lifts? I see no logical reason.
People should know not to do anything like this. Lifts are useful when filming sports events, and if a person wants to risk using one, then he or she should be able to.
If there are still safety concerns with students, schools should allow only people who have been trained to use the equipment.
