Lines School gets exercise help from experts
The Midwest Bone & Joint Institute is sponsoring “Lines on the Run”, a children’s running club at Arnett C. Lines School in Barrington. The sponsorship is part of an initiative to teach children about the important role nutrition and exercise play in building strong bones and avoiding childhood fractures.
In addition, it aligns with a national campaign supported by the Institute, “STOP Sports Injuries” -- a program focused on the importance of sports safety, specifically relating to overuse and trauma injuries. The campaign not only raises awareness and provides education on injury reduction, but also highlights how playing safe and smart can enhance and extend a child’s athletic career, improve teamwork, reduce obesity rates and create a lifelong love of exercise and healthy activity.
Dr. James R. Seeds, an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist at MBJ said they saw “Lines on the Run as a good opportunity to get involved in teaching children the importance of good nutrition and living an active lifestyle, specifically in respect to building and maintaining strong bones.
“It’s a great way to encourage kids participate in bone-building activities, such as running, while following safe practices to avoid injuries,” he said.
