E.G.H.S. adds new no auditionchoir
Elk Grove High School’s choral department has inaugurated a new ensemble this year called, the Grenadier Voices.
According to choral director Sarah Catt, the Grenadier Voices sing gospel and world music.
“Elk Grove’s choral program is growing, and many of the students enrolled in choir want more opportunities to sing outside of school,” Catt said.
“Right now, there is music going on in the choir room before, during, after school and even at night. Our choir students want to sing all the time.”
To find room for all interested singers in the school, Catt believed that a group needed to exist which welcomed all voices, regardless of choir enrollment or prior musical experience.
So far, there are upward of 50 students attending Wednesday rehearsals after school. No auditions are required, only a love for singing and willingness to commit to the group. Grenadier Voices will meet year round and perform in concert with all the other EGHS choirs.
“In addition to the educational benefits,” said Catt, “I personally just love gospel and multicultural music. I sang in a gospel group throughout college and discovered so much great music that I would now like to share with students.
“This group lets us explore different styles that many students are not familiar with. All students are welcome to participate.”
