Caretaker charged with exploiting elderly woman

A 23-year-old Crystal Lake woman has been charged with stealing a disabled elderly woman’s credit card information, whom she was being paid to care for, according to police.

Jericha Shively, of the 4500 block of Amy Drive, was arrested after authorities learned she had purchased items over the Internet with the victim’s credit card information, according to the McHenry County sheriff’s office.

The victim filed a report of the fraudulent charged in March when her checking account and credit card information was used.

Investigators interviewed Shively, who was the victim’s caregiver at the time of the theft, and she admitted to stealing the information, police said.

Shively was charged with two counts of unlawful financial exploitation of an elderly person and two counts of unlawful use of a credit card.

Shively is due in court on Nov. 7.
