Elk Grove's Doll named Bears coach of the week
A big week for Elk Grove got even better Friday when it was announced that Brian Doll was chosen as the Bears Coach of the Week.
Elk Grove will receive a $1,500 award from the Bears to go toward its football program. Doll will receive a framed certificate and will be invited to attend the Bears-Seahawks game Dec. 18 with other honorees and take part in a pregame chalk talk and practice session with head coach Lovie Smith.
The Grenadiers took sole possession of first place in the Mid-Suburban East and improved to 6-1 after winning their fifth straight game 24-21 at Prospect on Thursday night. Doll has led them to three straight playoff appearances for the first time in school history.
"We have an amazing coaching staff and I give all the credit to coach Doll," said Elk Grove senior linebacker-running back Darren Little after Thursday's win. "He's an amazing coach and we all have a tight bond."
Wes Lunt of Rochester was chosen as BP Bears Player of the Week after he threw for a state-record 590 yards in a 49-35 win over Springfield High. The Oklahoma State-bound Lunt was 47-for-61 passing with 4 touchdowns to surpass the 589 yards in a game by former Riverside-Brookfield star and Illinois quarterback Tim Brasic.
