Waukegan Police searching for truck involved in fatal hit-and-run
Waukegan Police are searching for the driver of a pickup truck involved in a hit-and-run crash that killed a 73-year-old woman.
Pilar Ponce, of Waukegan, was found laying on the roadway when emergency crews arrived at Grand Avenue and Pine Street at 7:40 p.m. Thursday. She died after being taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Sgt. Gage Guzman said.
During the investigation, officers obtained video from an area business that showed the make and model of the truck, Guzman said.
The vehicle is a light-colored, full-sized Chevrolet pick up truck single cab. It has a matching colored bed cap and a roof rack with ladders mounted to the top of the vehicle. There is also a large dent in the driver’s-side front fender, and the cap of the truck does not have windows but comes with flip-up access panel doors.
Waukegan Police are attempting to identify the vehicle and the driver. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact Lt. Ed Fitzgerald at (847) 599-2631 or via email at edwardf@waukaganpd.net.
