Dad throws first Brewers’ pitch in son’s memory

MILWAUKEE — The first ceremonial pitch in the second game of the Milwaukee Brewers National League Championship Series came from the father of a young fan killed by a drunken driver.

Treyton Kilar’s family from Whitewater says the 6-year-old was one of the Brewers’ biggest backers. Treyton went to a Brewers’ event last year and posed for a photo with his idol, Prince Fielder. Monday night, Treyton’s dad, Michael Kilar, tossed the first pitch to his son’s hero.

Treyton was killed in September 2010 when a drunken driver plowed into the family’s vehicle. He was buried in a Prince Fielder jersey.

His mother, Mary Kilar, tells the Journal Sentinel that baseball is something that helps her family remember Treyton with joy and deal with his loss.
