Patrick Kane-Marian Hossa show promising chemistry
The Blackhawks began discussing last summer ways to get super skilled playmakers Patrick Kane and Marian Hossa on the ice at the same time even though they played the same position as right wings.
That’s when the idea was hatched to try Kane at center.
Hawks coach Joel Quenneville gave all the credit to general manager Stan Bowman.
Smart man.
And if it turns out down the line not to work?
“I’ll take the heat,” joked Quenneville.
So far it’s working out great with Kane and Hossa showing terrific chemistry together. They have combined for 2 goals and 6 assists in the Hawks’ first three games and are plus-5.
“We never really played with each other too much, even on the power play, maybe some shifts here and there, but nothing really to create some chemistry,” Kane said. “We keep trying to improve on it in practice and in games.
“We both play similar styles. He’s probably more of a shooter, but we both like to have the puck a lot. Hopefully the chemistry will keep getting better.”
Quenneville and Bowman also shared the idea to slot Daniel Carcillo on the left side with Kane and Hossa, which paid dividends in their first game Thursday after practicing together for only a few days.
Carcillo was physical and had an assist in the 4-3 win over Winnipeg.
“It was pretty remarkable that they had such a strong game in a short amount of time,” Quenneville said. “The one thing Danny did right off the bat, he kept his game the way he’s always played. He was physical and got in the hitting department early in the game. They made some nice plays in the zone and had a lot of puck possession time.
“You don’t know how long it’s going to last or how it would look, but it was a good start.”
