Enjoy pancakes with Countryside firefighters

Countryside Fire Protection District will host its annual pancake breakfast and open house from 8 a.m. to noon, Sunday, Oct. 9, at the fire station, 600 Deerpath Drive, Vernon Hills.

In addition to having all you can eat breakfast for $15 per family, there will be several activities and demonstrations. Visitors will be able to take a tour of the station, sit in a fire truck and talk with firefighters.

The new Lake County fire safety smoke trailer will be on site for everyone to experience how to escape a smoke-filled room. Children can practice on an inflatable crawl through fire truck provided by Record a Hit.

Hawthorn Wellness Center will provide free health and spinal checks, while Dominick’s will have the seasonal flu shot available for $25. Countryside Fire Protection District firefighters will use the live fire demonstration trailer to show the catastrophic effects of fire in comparison to how effective installed fire sprinklers are in buildings. Sprinkler Man and Cinders the Mascots will be on available for photos.

This family activity is an opportunity to brush up on fire and life safety at home and in the community. There will be handouts and giveaways provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
