Stevenson High magazine wins national award

The 2011 edition of “The Wit,” Stevenson High School’s student literary arts magazine, has received another major honor, officials said.

The magazine picked up a first-place award from the American Scholastic Press Association, earning 930 out of a possible 1,000 points.

“The Wit” garnered the maximum 400 points in content coverage. In addition, a new layout featuring full-color spreads throughout the magazine earned a maximum 180 points.

“(The) magazine shows the superior efforts of talented and creative editors, writers, artists, photographers, layout/graphics designers, staff members and advisers,” a contest judge wrote.

In August, “The Wit” earned a First Class rating from the National Scholastic Press Association.

The editor-in-chief of the 2011 “Wit” was Ariel Rosen, senior editor was Danielle Levsky and Darcy Rozen was in charge of digital imagery. All were members of the Class of 2011.

The rest of the student staff included: 2011 graduate Emily Davis; seniors Ariel Blackman, Kimberly Levy and Luke Stroth; juniors Rachel Affenit and Shayna Korol; and sophomores Joanne Jun and Diana Lu.

The sponsors of “The Wit” are Jim Barnabee and Chris Heckel-Oliver.
