Strong turnout at Warrenville VFW Halloween party

Organizers of VFW Post 8081’s Halloween Party said they hoped the event would bring many local families to the post’s hall in Warrenville.

Mission accomplished.

The hall, all decked out in suitably-creepy Halloween regalia, was packed Sunday afternoon for the party, which included food, games and a children’s costume contest.

“This is a great turnout,” said Anita Koch, a member of the post’s ladies auxiliary, which helped organize the event. “We’re always looking for ways to bring people to the post, so this is wonderful.”

Dozens of children, all of them dressed in their Halloween costumes, were in attendance Sunday afternoon. Some were content to sit and enjoy a hot-dog lunch. Others participated in the games and contests.

Melissa Aubrey of Oswego attended the party with her 9-year-old son, Hayden, and her 3-year-old daughter, Ireland.

“We’ve done so many Halloween activities now that he’s probably bored with his costume by now,” she said of her son, who was dressed as the wildly popular young wizard Harry Potter.

Hayden disagreed.

“The only thing that’s bothering me are the glasses,” he said.

Aubrey, who used to live in the Warrenville area, said she was glad to learn via Facebook that the VFW was hosting a Halloween party.

“I like this area, and it’s nice to have something fun to bring the kids to,” she said.
