Libertyville stops Hersey; Palatine moves on

Palatine sectional: Top-seeded Libertyville shut out Hersey 3-0 in boys soccer on Wednesday at Libertyville to earn a spot in Saturday’s 4 p.m. regional championship against No. 7 Palatine, which eliminated No. 9 Waukegan 1-0.

Ÿ No. 2 seed Prospect had no trouble with No. 15 Mundelein, winning 5-0 to earn a spot in Saturday’s 7 p.m. regional championship against host Stevenson.

The Knights opted to take the wind at their back in the first half, but according to coach Kurt Trenkle did not work hard enough to take advantage and had only a 1-0 lead at the half after a goal by Bill Cooney.

Second-half goals from Patryck Ruta and Alex Schnepf and 2 from Richard Lenke against the wind ended up giving Prospect (18-0-2) plenty of breathing room.

The No. 8 Patriots eliminated No. 10 St. Viator on Wednesday in a 3-1 decision.

Bartlett sectional: Addison Trail edged Glenbard West 2-1 at Schaumburg on Wednesday to advance to the regional championship round. The Blazers will face top-seeded Saxons at 3 p.m. Saturday at Schaumburg.
