EGHS prepares a stylish ‘Dracula’

Elk Grove High School’s Drama Department will present a blood-soaked, action-packed adaptation of Deane and Balderston’s play, “Dracula,” at 7 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, Oct. 5-8, in the school theater.

The production is based on the classic novel of the same name by Bram Stoker. A noteworthy twist in the E.G.H.S. production is that both the protagonist and Dracula are played by female actresses.

One of the great mystery thrillers of all time, the play has influenced theatrical productions, films, books and television shows, introducing the vampire genre to the world of entertainment. Live musicians, original music, and specially choreographed dances add a touch of Elk Grove magic to the classic story of good vs. evil.

Professor Van Helsing (Samantha Gatwood) and her brave comrades must hunt down and destroy the profoundly evil Countess Dracula (Christina Erbacci). But the Countess is exceedingly resourceful, employing superhuman strength, psychic powers and shape-changing to confound and frustrate her antagonists.

Additional cast members include Celine Hall, Dustin Beelow, Grace Allen, Mike Frale, Allen Fearing, Rachel Carrell and Brent Wolff.

The director is Chuck Cavazos; Miguel Sanchez is the assistant director; Brad Kahler, technical director; Sue Montemayor, house manager; Christina Erbacci, costume designer; Kelly Ricci, costume coordinator; Stephanie Carrell, choreographer, with Rachel Carrell; and original music was written by Dustin Beelow.

Buy tickets in advance or at the door for $7; $6 for students and seniors. (847) 718-4553.
