Scouting Hersey at Wheeling

Hersey (3-5, 0-4) at Wheeling (2-6, 1-3)

When: 7:30 p.m. today

Last week: Hersey lost to Meadows 30-21; Wheeling d. Buffalo Grove 14-7

Outlook: Wheeling snapped a six-game losing streak with a big rivalry win last week and would like to get another and avenge a 12-8 loss in last year's finale to Hersey. “We're both in the same boat,” said Wheeling coach Dave Dunbar. “Their guys want to finish off the year well and we want to do the same thing. Their defense plays hard and you have to be on top of your game on your defensive side.” Wheeling was last week with 2 INTs from Luke Smith and strong play from LBs Chris Johnson, Brandon Yacu and Sam Rosengarden. Hersey has lost four straight but has made a nice turnaround under first-year coach Dragan Teonic and has a solid running tandem in Zach Johnson and Chris Polinski. The Huskies lead the series 26-16.
