Dist. 128 pools close today:
With no reprieve coming from state officials, the swimming pools at Libertyville and Vernon Hills high schools will be closed indefinitely starting today because of safety concerns, a District 128 spokeswoman said Friday. Improvements to the drains at the two schools were required under state and federal laws, but administrators didn’t know of today’s deadline until this summer. District 128 officials have asked for an extension, but none has been granted. Students set to use the pools for physical education classes will perform other activities. Swim teams will practice and compete elsewhere.
