Stevenson High to welcome musicians, improv troupe

Professional performers specializing in comedy, Broadway music and kids tunes are scheduled to play at Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire in late 2011 and early 2012.

The improvisational group Comedy Sportz will come to the school Nov. 12.

The longest-running short-form improv show in Chicago, Comedy Sportz isn’t stand-up comedy or sports-themed. It pits two teams of performers against each other, with a properly uniformed referee awarding points for the best skits.

Audience interaction is key, influencing each scene.

In a show called “Under the Streetlamp,” the four original members of Chicago’s “Jersey Boys” cast will perform at Stevenson Jan. 21.

Accompanied by an orchestra, the singers will perform 1960s-era rock ‘n’ roll, Motown and other musical styles.

Additionally, a limited number of tickets to a VIP reception will be available at an off-campus venue. Information about the VIP event will be provided once tickets for the show are purchased.

Finally, Ralph Covert will perform kid-friendly music as part of Ralph’s World Feb. 19. That show is set for 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults or $10 for kids.
