Cops: Woodstock man made $33K with stolen ID

A Woodstock man has been charged with felony identity theft after he used a Carpentersville man's identification to secure two jobs, police said.

Cosme Velazquez-Bustamante, 32, of the 700 block of North Seminary Avenue in Woodstock, was also charged with felony possession of a fraudulent identification card. He was arrested Tuesday at one of the jobs he held, police said.

The 38-year-old Carpentersville man told police he received documents from the Internal Revenue Service on Monday that said he owed taxes for two jobs he says he never worked.

Using the victim's name, Social Security number and date of birth, Velazquez-Bustamante found employment at A&A Magnetics in Woodstock and Corporate Services, Inc., an employment agency with offices in the northwest suburbs and Wisconsin, police said.

He was born in Mexico, Cmdr. Timothy Bosshart said.

On Tuesday, Carpentersville police found Velazquez-Bustamante at A&A Magnetics with the victim's information and arrested him at work, Bosshart said.

Police later seized three fraudulent identification cards from Velazquez-Bustamante that carried his photograph with the victim's information.

He made at least $33,000 working both jobs and told police he bought the victim's identification for $200 in Chicago, Bosshart said.

Velazquez-Bustamante's bond was set at $15,000 and he is due in court next Wednesday.

He could spend between four and 15 years in jail, if found guilty of the identity theft charge.
