The Wheaton Municipal Band Salutes America
Nothing says patriotism like the Wheaton Municipal Band Concert Patriotic Concert in Memorial Park. The season continues on Thursday, June 30 at 8:00 p.m. Copland's music gives voice to the spirit of America with his “Fanfare to the Common Man.”
Guest Conductor Professor Joseph Herman, director of bands at Tennessee Technological University, will present a moving concert of patriotic favorites and other stirring works. Hermann is sought after nationally and internationally as a conductor, adjudicator and speaker. He has roots in Chicago where he served as the Educational Director for Bands of America and McCormick's Enterprises.
Herman has chosen to feature a special piece, “The Greatest Generation” by Greg Danner. Danner is also a professor of music at Tennessee Technological University. The piece uses letters from four soldiers from World War II and weaves the music around them to capture their experience. This stirring patriotic work will capture the hearts of the audience. Our announcer, Pete Friedmann will narrate. Also on the program are works of Irving Berlin, George Gershwin and favorite marches.
