Ingleside burglar gets jail time, probation

An Ingleside man was sentenced Friday to six months in jail after admitting he broke into a shed and stole property.

Brandon Cordova, 18, pleaded guilty to a single count of burglary as part of a deal in which charges in four other similar break-ins were dismissed.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Tim Niehus said Cordova, of the 35000 block of Helendale Road, broke into a shed on property near his home March 23 and stole two hunting bows, a boat trolling motor, three fishing poles and a paintball gun.

Similar property was taken from four other sheds broken into in March, Niehus told Circuit Judge James Booras.

Cordova was identified when police did a database search of local pawn shops and discovered he had sold some of the missing property.

Booras, who also placed Cordova on probation for two years, scheduled a hearing for July 15 to determine how much restitution the Ingleside man must pay to the owners of the stolen property.

Niehus said Cordova could have faced up to seven years in prison for each burglary if convicted after trial.
