Kudos to Franks for tax holiday

Kudos to State Rep. Jack Franks for successfully creating the sales tax holiday from Aug. 6-15 this year. Rep. Franks introduced the idea to Illinois after a family vacation to Florida when he learned of the benefits to the citizens of the Sunshine State.

It's not often that a legislator is successful in actually reducing taxes, and Rep. Franks should be commended. He did not give up on this idea, even though it took a few tries to persuade his colleagues to temporarily cut the tax.

Rep. Franks' tax holiday will save the average family about $50, while also helping to stimulate the economy as retailers take on additional workers. This law applies to everyone, not just those with kids returning to school.

At a time of record unemployment and high taxes, it's good to know that we have at least one legislator on our side, fighting for us.
