Decorate a chair for Arlington Hts. contest

The Arlington Heights Arts Commission is hosting its fifth annual “Decorate a Chair” competition during the Frontier Days Festival Sunday, July 3, at Recreation Park.

Participants should bring their decorated chair to the area near Miner Street and Belmont Avenue between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday, July 3, with judging from 2 to 3 p.m.

A jury of fine arts and crafts professionals will select the winners. Awards will be based on artistic impression, originality, quality and aesthetic appeal. Winners will receive gift cards for use at participating downtown Arlington Heights businesses.

First and second prizes will be awarded in the following categories: Adult (18 and over); Youth (12-17); Child (11 and younger) and Family and Friends (individuals working together)

There will also be one prize for the People’s Choice Award, in which members of the public can vote for their favorite chair. People’s Choice voting ends at 2:45 p.m. The awards ceremony is at 3 p.m.

Participants are asked to keep their chairs on display for public viewing from 3 to 3:30 p.m., after which the chairs may be picked up.

Application forms will be available at the park July 3, and will be completed the day of the event. Chairs of any size or material will be accepted. There is no limit on the number of entries and no entry fee, but each chair must have its own entry form.
