Small aircraft veers off runway in LITH

No injuries were reported after a small aircraft went off the edge of a runway Saturday morning at Lake in the Hills Airport.

Pilot Michael Higgins of Palatine and instructor pilot Krzysztof Mariusz of Chicago were in the Mooney M20R aircraft and were treated and released at the scene, according to a news release from the village of Lake in the Hills.

The airport was temporarily closed after the call came in at 10:40 a.m., authorities said. Lake in the Hills police and the Crystal Lake Fire Department responded to the call.

According to preliminary information, the pilot was attempting to land when the aircraft lost power and veered off the runway. Lake in the Hills Sgt. Terri Vollmer said the aircraft was damaged.

The accident is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration.
