Why we fight so hard against abortion

Eric Gilford pleaded guilty to killing his pregnant wife and her unborn child, accoridng to in an article in the Daily Herald on June 11. The judge in this case can order him to serve 20-80 years in prison for her murder and 20-60 years for the unborn child’s homicide.

Does the law recognize that when we speak about unborn children, we are not speaking about “possible” children; we are speaking about real children who are already quite alive, therefore, the two sentences. In contrast, however, if Kristine, his wife, had willingly aborted her child in the womb before he killed her, she would not have been charged with killing her unborn child.

The abortion doctor with all intent to kill the child would not have been charged with murder. The nurses who assisted the doctor and those who accompanied her to the clinic would not be considered accessories to the crime. All who are pro-life believe that when a woman is pregnant, there is a child in the womb and it is not just a blob of tissue.

That is why we work so hard to protect the innocent from abortion, a violent act that causes death, but because it is legal there is no jail sentence for all who are involved. No justice for the innocent unborn child. Tens of millions of childen have been aborted in America since 1973. How many more have to be killed? We need new laws and lawmakers to battle the culture of death. A woman’s womb should be a safe place not a possible tomb.
